SRIJB adds PhD student Georgie Efegenia Humphries to the team

The Science and Resilience Institute at Jamaica Bay is expanding again to meet the growing challenges the estuary faces in a changing climate. SRIJB would like to welcome Georgie Efegenia Humphries to its team. Ms. Humphries will be focusing on science communication and on Natural and Nature-based Features (NNBF) research to expand and disseminate knowledge about how NNBF can help Jamaica Bay as sea levels rise.

Ms. Humphries is a PhD student in the Earth & Environmental Sciences department at the CUNY Graduate Center (GC). Since 2019, she has been working in the Greenfield Lab at the Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC), where her research has focused on biogeochemical cycling of nutrients and microbial interactions in New York waterways. She is passionate about science communication and enjoys her role as an adjunct lecturer of environmental sciences at CUNY Queens College, and as a research assistant for the creation of a climate justice certificate at the GC. As NNBF research assistant at SRIJB, she will be planning and co-moderating workshops to understand Jamaica Bay stakeholder interests, author white papers focused on nature-based solutions and strategies and compile relevant data.
