Resiliency Practice Assessment Report

photoThe Science and Resilience Institute at Jamaica Bay is committed to working with the communities of the bay to help solve problems in conjunction with local citizens—individually and in groups. The Institute’s inaugural report on Resiliency Practice in the Jamaica Bay Watershed: Building a Research and Policy Agenda for Action represents the beginning framework for building this collaboration between scientific researchers and community groups, stakeholders, and decision-makers in the bay. The goal of the assessment is to define the important problems to be further researched in the bay, to specify what scientific research is needed to solve problems, and to contribute overall to building resilience practice capacity of the Jamaica Bay social-ecological system. This assessment report is not meant to be just a descriptive list of the systems and drivers of change in Jamaica Bay but rather an interpretative analysis of the current scientific research, information, and knowledge available to achieve the explicit purpose of building resilience capacity in Jamaica Bay. Authors of the report met in June 2014 and in December 2014 to coordinate and present early drafts of the report. A draft version of the full report is expected in early 2015.
